How to Draw a Cartoon Rose – let’s get Initiated!

Step 1

Roses are known for their complex petal structure, which can make drawing them a pain in the ass! When working on your cartoon rose drawing, we recommend that you take it carefully, slowly, and carefully by following the images we have provided.

We’ll start in the center of this particular rose, and you’ll get an idea of the twisted shape of these petals. You can enlarge the image and draw it section by section to make things easier. You can also use a pencil and then go over it with your pen when you’re happy with how it looks!

Step 2

In this second step of our guide on drawing a cartoon rose, we will simplify things a bit. We’ll draw some larger petals on top of the flower. These will go on either side of the flower and have rounded outlines. Then we’ll use some more wavy lines for the inner edges of these larger petals. This is another step where you should closely replicate the details we presented in our example.

Step 3

This third step will focus on adding the final petals of the flower. These new petals will create a sort of ground for the petal area of the rose. We’ll draw three large, rounded petals for this section of the flower, and there will also be some wavy detail lines inside the petals. With these petals drawn, we’re ready to move on to the next section of the flower, which will be the stem.

Step 4

The petals for your cartoon rose drawing are complete, and now we will focus on the flower’s stem. To draw this stem, we’ll first add a small section below the flower petals. This section will be drawn by curved lines that will culminate in some pointed tips, three to be exact. So the stem will come down from this section.

The stem will be drawn using some curved lines that extend downward. The lines will curve to the right, but you can have them bend to the left or even extend downward if you prefer. Once you’ve drawn the stem, you’re ready for some final details in the next step of the guide!

Step 5

You’ve finished the trickier parts of this guide on drawing a cartoon rose, and in this step, we’ll add some leaves to the stem. There will be two sets of leaves, each attached to its stem. Start drawing these smaller stems from the sides. Then, we’ll add three leaves of different sizes to these stems. Each one will have a few veins inside, and then you’re done with this step!

Before proceeding to the final step, you can add your touches to the image. These could be small details like holes in the leaves or perhaps a few insects, or they could be larger, like a nice garden background. These are only a few ideas, while the cases are endless! This is where you can express your creativity by showing us what amazing ideas you have for this image.

Step 6

Roses are most commonly associated with red, which we chose in this example image. We use various shades of beautiful, warm reds on all the petals. By changing the shadows, you can create some depth of shading for the image. Next, we use some beautiful greens for the stem and leaves.

While this is a classic look for a rose, they come in many other colors too! You have many options available to finish this rose. You can keep the colors nice and realistic or create your amazing variation of roses! We recommend using watercolors for this image, but you can get amazing results no matter what art tools and media you use.
